OUR MISSION: Inspired by the teachings of Christ, Catholic Charities of the East Bay serves the poor and vulnerable and advocates for social justice while respecting the religious beliefs of those we serve.

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Programs and Public Affairs, the Grant Writer is responsible for writing grants and major gift proposals. S/he also coordinates and implements communications in support of Catholic Charities’ fund development program, including: annual fund/stewardship, donor communications, newsletters and website content. Additionally, the Grant Writer maintains current information regarding philanthropic trends and funding priorities of government agencies, private foundations and corporate giving programs. S/he is responsible for identifying and developing funding sources to support existing and planned programs, and analyzing trends and opportunities for new programs. Key areas:
WRITING:
•Write letters of intent and grant proposals/reports.
•Assist in layout and content development of published materials.
•Contribute to special communication projects as requested by the Director of Development and Public Affairs.
•As assigned, develop and write newsletter stories, major gift proposals, direct mail appeals, stewardship materials, thank-you letters, and website updates.

RESEARCH:
•Research and identify new grant and funding opportunities.
•In support of funding opportunities, develop a sound knowledge and understanding of Catholic Charities’ mission, its purpose and programs.
•Interview and gather information from program staff, collaborative partners and clients in support of projects.

GRANTS MANAGEMENT:
•Prioritize and manage multiple priorities including managing all aspects of the proposal preparation process.
•Monitor grant submissions and meet reporting deadlines.
•Assist in strategizing and planning to achieve departmental and agency objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree and minimum two years experience demonstrating writing, research, and work flow management skills are required for this position.
•Demonstrated strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar, word usage and spelling.
•Excellent communication, team player with strong interpersonal skills.
•Knowledge of non-profit funding practices and procedures.
•Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, internet research, database management.
•Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge a plus; web page management a plus.
•Ability to work with budgets and spreadsheets.
•Attention to detail and follow-through.
•Commitment to the agency’s mission and values.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
•Primarily a desk job in a normal office climate.
•Use of typical office technology – communications, copiers, etc.
•Prolonged sitting and continuous use of computer keyboard and monitor.
•Ability to attend off-premises meetings (mileage/travel expenses reimbursed).

SALARY and BENEFITS: This is an exempt, fulltime (35 hours per week) position. The pay range is $43,000 to $48,000 annually, depending on experience. CCEB offers a fulltime work week of 35 hours per week. Benefits include vacation and sick leave, 15 paid holidays, group medical, dental and vision benefits, and two retirement plans. The agency provides life insurance, short and long term disability, and an employee assistance program (EAP) at no cost. Part-time employees at 20 hours per week or more are eligible for all benefits.
